ABOUT

Our laboratory explores how architecture—in the broadest sense of the term—and architectural thinking can contribute to the future of society, cities, and living environments in Japan, a country at the forefront of confronting the challenges of a shrinking society. Through multifaceted research, investigation, analysis, and visualization, we aim to examine new possibilities both theoretically and practically.
We seek to interpret this unstable era in a positive light, and, with a deep awareness of historical context, to transform social issues into opportunities for generating new forms of architecture and environment. In a world where “global solutions” do not necessarily align with “local realities,” we pursue the role that spatial design and architectural proposals can play—by engaging both perspectives through creativity and responsibility nurtured by architectural education.
Furthermore, recognizing that the challenges Japan faces are also shared globally, we position the questions and innovations that emerge from our work as practices open to the world. By moving back and forth between local concerns and a global perspective, we strive to explore forms of design and architectural thinking that embody universal value.
