第1回 瀬戸内国際建築デザイン実施コンペ 2025

「重力から自由になる家」をテーマに、岡山県玉野市の瀬戸内海からほど近い敷地を対象とした木造の個人住宅を提案するコンペティションが行われた。小林研究室からは2チームが参加し、両提案ともに一次審査を通過した。さらに、9月に岡山コンベンションセンターで行われた二次審査において、プレゼンテーションを行った。
An architectural design competition was held under the theme “A House Free from Gravity,” calling for proposals for a wooden private residence on a site located near the Seto Inland Sea in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture. Two teams from our laboratory participated, and both proposals successfully passed the first round of screening. Furthermore, the teams gave presentations at the second-round review held in September at the Okayama Convention Center.

グループ1: 「橋に棲む」
コンペティションのテーマに着想を受け、人々を重力から解き放つ構造物である橋を、そのまま人が暮らす場へと再解釈する提案を行った。フラットな敷地にあえて木造のアーチをかけることで、本来の通路としての意味を剥ぎ取り、その橋の上下で重力と戯れながら時間を過ごす、そんな新たな暮らしのあり方を模索した。
Inspired by the theme of the competition, we proposed a reinterpretation of a bridge—an architectural structure that liberates people from gravity—as a place for living. By deliberately placing a wooden arch on a flat site, the bridge was stripped of its original function as a passageway. Instead, we explored a new mode of living in which people spend time interacting with gravity, both above and below the bridge.

グループ2: 「HOUSE Fold Frame」

この提案は、「壁からの解放」というテーマのもと、本来重力を担ってきた木造住宅の“壁”を構造要素から空間生成装置へと転換することで、新しい住まいのあり方を提示した。田の字型住宅をプロトタイプに、壁の質量や量を変えずに折る・曲げる操作を行い、壁そのものを床や天井、境界へと変形させることで、上下・内外・部屋同士の関係を再編成した。

こうして生まれた「抜け」や「スキップフロア的空間」は、視線と動線を交錯させ、家族の気配や行為が自然に重なり合う構成となる。空間を曖昧な領域として連続させることで、時間とライフスタイルの変化に柔軟に適応する住空間を目指した。

This proposal, under the theme of “Liberation from Walls,” presents a new approach to housing by transforming the “walls” of traditional wooden houses—which have historically borne the weight of gravity—from structural elements into devices for generating space. Using a T-shaped house as a prototype, it reorganizes the relationships between upper and lower levels, interior and exterior, and rooms by folding and bending the walls without altering their mass or quantity, thereby transforming the walls themselves into floors, ceilings, and boundaries.

The resulting “openings” and “skip-floor-like spaces” intertwine sightlines and movement paths, creating a composition where the presence and activities of family members naturally overlap. By connecting spaces as ambiguous, continuous zones, the design aimed to create a living environment flexible enough to adapt to changes in time and lifestyle.

結果は「橋に棲む」の提案が最優秀賞、オーディエンス賞、「HOUSE Fold Frame」の提案が審査員特別賞を受賞した。公開での審査会とその後の懇親会では、審査員の方々だけでなく、同じ敷地条件でフリーランス部門に出展していた若い建築家の方々とも議論をする機会をいただき、他のアイデアコンペティションでは体験することのできない非常に貴重な学びを得ることができた。

The proposal “Living on a Bridge” won both the First Prize and the Audience Award, while the proposal “HOUSE Fold Frame” received a Special Jury Prize. During the public review session and the subsequent reception, we had the opportunity not only to discuss our work with the jury members but also to exchange ideas with young architects who had submitted proposals in the freelance category under the same site conditions. This provided an extremely valuable learning experience that is difficult to obtain in other design competitions.
